A pastry chef who’s worked at some of New York’s top restaurants is opening a chocolate shop and bakery in Society Hill.

Aurora Wold, whose resume includes Michelin-starred spots like The Musket Room, Jean Georges, and Eleven Madison Park, will open the flagship brick-and-mortar of Aurora Grace Chocolates at 517 South 5th Street, between Lombard and South. The space was formerly occupied by Little Bird Bakery.

Wold moved from New York to Philadelphia after her fiancé landed a job with Comcast and then decided to start her own business. She began selling hand-painted bonbons, chocolate bars, macarons, and other sweet treats at farmers’ markets around the city in 2017, sourcing local fruits and vegetables in season from neighboring market vendors.

To start, Aurora Grace will sell coffee, baked goods like cookies, scones, and breads, and confections. The shop will feature a dedicated chocolate counter, where customers can build their own combination box in flavors like peanut butter salted pretzel, espresso ganache, and mint chocolate cookie.

Once things are running smoothly, Wold said, she plans to expand her product line as well as host events and teach classes in the space. She’s hoping to get the shop open before Thanksgiving.
