Whetstone Tavern Is Closing
The Queen Village spot's last day will be July 1st.

Whetstone Tavern is closing on Sunday, July 1st after three years in business.
Owner Doug Hager, who will refocus on his other restaurant, Brauhaus Schmitz, attributed the decision to slow sales and an opportunity to sell the building and its attached liquor license, Philly.com reports. Hager hopes to go out on a positive note, with plans to donate 20 percent of the proceeds from sales from June 29th through July 1st to nearby Meredith Elementary School.
Hager opened Whetstone at 5th and Bainbridge Streets in 2015 with longtime Brauhaus Schmitz chef Jeremy Nolen, who left the tavern in early 2017 before relocating to the Reading area to spend more time with his family. Chef Eric Leveillee ran Whetstone’s kitchen for more than a year before heading west to serve as executive chef at Marigold Kitchen.
