Burg’s Hideaway Lounge Opens in Point Breeze
Last night we cruised by Burg’s Hideaway Lounge at 21st and Federal to see what the progress looked like. And low and behold, the former Buckminster’s was open. It was a very soft opening with no food and just draft beer available for sampling. But Ori Feibush’s redo of Burg’s was welcoming neighbors to check out the place. Gone are the white and teal walls of Buckminster’s, replaced with browns and wood. A mishmash of bar stools now line the bar. Tables in the front have been replaced by a wraparound communal table that can seat at least ten.
An old school jukebox with actual CDs glows at the back of Burg’s. The draft list is a promising mix of sours, saisons, IPAs and boozy stouts. The draft list tops out at $6 for Off Color Brewing’s Berliner Weisse. There will also be at least one $6 wine on tap.
The menu is tight, or maybe tiny? A cheeseburger is the lone item in the dinner section that really sounds like dinner. It’s just $7.50. As the night wore on, the kitchen sent out some plates to try. The twice-fried fries were excellent. The crispy spring rolls were much more than something from the frozen food section and the battered and fried shrimp (which aren’t on the opening menu) were good enough to get the assembled excited for the bar’s promise.
Burg’s aim is certainly lower than that of Buckminster’s, but sometimes it’s ok to just be a bar.
Burg’s Hideaway Lounge opens this evening, Tuesday, December 6th at 5 p.m.
