This Weekend: Philadelphia Honey Festival Buzzes Into Town
The Philadelphia Honey Festival is happening this weekend with events on September 9th through the 11th. The party kicks off at Glen Foerd on the Delaware with a Honey Happy Hour from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. There will be beekeeping demonstrations, honey based beer and mead and even someone with a beer beard.
On Saturday, the Festival moves to Germantown and the Wyck Historic house and gardens. There’s a home mead and honey beer contest. But to taste in that, you also have to submit a mead or honey beer. But there will also be commercial mead available in addition to demonstrations about bees and honey.
And then on Sunday, the three-day fest heads to Bartram’s Garden where there is a a “BUZZED” Ice Cream Social and Art in the Age cocktails, plus boozy ice cream floats.
Little Baby’s Ice Cream has created an exclusive new flavor featuring paw-paws and Bartram’s Bitters. Paw-paws are North America’s largest edible fruit and Bartram’s Garden has an established stand of trees as well as new paw-paw trees thanks to the Philadelphia Orchard Project.
Also on hand will be Art in the Age which will be making cocktails and boozy ice cream floats. If you noticed the lack of honey in the last couple of paragraphs, have no fear, there will also be a BUZZED cocktail made with RHUBARB and according to Olivia Carb, Director of Partnerships and Public Relations for Quaker City Mercantile. is “inspired by the rich tradition of beekeeping.”
There will also be(e) a children’s be-a-bee costume parade, the Garden’s annual autumn plant sale, a marketplace with local crafts, beer, and mead samplings with Philly Homebrew Outlet and St. Benjamin’s Brewery, and a cooking demonstration.
