Uptown Beer Garden Announces Chef and Opening Date

Uptown Beer Garden, the outdoor drinking bar from Teddy Sourias of BRU Craft & Wurst, U-Bahn and Cinder is going to open at 1735 JFK Boulevard on Thursday, May 19th. Sourias has turned to chef Jonathan Petruce (Petruce et al, Fish) to run the kitchen at the 9,000 square foot beer garden.

Petruce will be utilizing an outdoor grill to cook up elevated barbecue and street food favorites. Look for a selection of skewers, grilled corn, lobster roll and more. As the summer rolls along, look for other surprises to be added.

On the drink side, look for three expanded bars that will offer more craft beers including “Uptown IPA,” a beer made exclusively by Pizza Boy Brewing Company for Uptown Beer Garden. There will eight draft lines and four craft cans available. Sangria, Dark n’ Stormys, Moscow Mules, frozen margaritas and select wines will fill out the drink offerings.

The beer garden is situated in the courtyard of the BNY Mellon Wealth building. The space will be filled with tree slab communal tables, outdoor lighting and three bars (forty feet, 25 feet and 20 feet long). Also, new for 2016, private events will have access to the inner atrium of the BNY Mellon Wealth building.

On Wednesday, May 25, 2016, Uptown Beer Garden will host its official grand opening, as well as the Center City Sips Preview Party from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., with beer and cocktail tastings and complimentary menu samples. Sips will continue each Wednesday with four different $3 drafts, $4 house wine and $5 green tea whiskey sours and Moscow Mules, plus a selection of half-priced appetizers.

On non-Sips nights, happy hour will run from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., and include $4 drafts (all eight choices), $5 apps and $6 sandwiches.

Uptown Beer Garden is open Monday and Tuesday, 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.; Wednesday through Friday, 2 p.m. to Midnight. Uptown is closed weekends except for special events and private parties.
