Beery Fishtown Gets Two Wine Bars
Frankford Avenue’s Fishtown Social is now open. The wine bar from Fishtown local, Vanessa Wong closely follows the Tria model of wine, beer, cheese and meat. Fishtown Social does however also offers cocktails.
The wines (8 white, 2 sparkling and 11 red) range from $8 to $15 a glass, beers are categorized as light, dark, hoppy and seasonal. The cheese and meats are priced at $7 a portion, three for $18.
The wine bar is open Tuesday through Thursday, from 4 p.m. to late night and from noon to late night on Fridays and Saturdays.
Fishtown Social isn’t the only new wine bar on the Avenue, if all goes well (there was a lot of construction still happening last night when we went by; UPDATE: Root opened Saturday evening) Root will open this weekend at 1206 Frankford Avenue, between Joe’s Steaks and Fette Sau.
Root is the restaurant of Greg Root, a former director for Starr Restaurant Organization, Nathalie Richan of Northern Liberties’ Cafe La Maude and chef Nick Kennedy, whose resume includes stops at Scott Conant Restaurants, New York’s Del Posto and Jean Georges as well as Washington D.C.’s Oval Room.
