Where To Eat And Drink on This Big Weekend
There’s a lot to look forward to this weekend. For some reason, it just seems like everybody decided to schedule their street festival / spring fest / goat race this weekend, so in order to keep track of everything going on in Philadelphia and to help you map out your plan of attack, here’s a roundup of some of the awesome food and drink events happening around the city.
Rittenhouse Row Spring Festival – Saturday, May 2
Head over to Walnut Street, between Avenue of the Arts and Rittenhouse Square, for shopping, art, live music and, of course, food and drinks. The free festival will be from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. and will feature over 100 different shopping and food booths, including Butcher & Singer, The Cow and The Curd, and a.kitchen. There will also be culinary demonstrations and cocktail and beer samplings. Check back here for some more details.
South Street Spring Festival – Saturday, May 2
Yep, that same day South Street will hold their own spring festival. So you’ll have to decide, where does your allegiance lie? More shopping, eating and drinking will be here, on South Street between Front Street and 8th Street. The South Street Festival does seem to have one advantage though – it goes from 11 a.m. until 8 p.m., so you can head to both if you’re up to the challenge. Food available down south includes Jerky Hut, Bridget Foy’s, and Manny Brown’s.
At the festival, Brauhaus Schmitz will be hosting their annual Maifest Celebration inside and outside of their bierhall. There will be a raffle to win an all-expense paid trip to visit Germany during Oktoberfest, as well as other competitions and a whole lot of beer.
Kentucky Derby at Rex 1516 – Saturday, May 2
If you’re looking forward to the big race, grab your biggest hat and head down to the southern-inspired Rex 1516. The restaurant is offering $8 mint juleps and $5 bar bites.
Sly Fox Bock Festival and Goat Race – Sunday, May 3
If that goat race comment above had you scratching your head, well, here’s some more details. Sly Fox is hosting their annual Bock Festival and due to the huge crowds, this year it has moved to Sly Fox Brewery in Pottstown. The event begins at 11 a.m. and is free to attend and pay-as-you-go for their German food menu and, of course, beer. The first round of the goat race begins at 2 p.m. and the winner will be honored by Sly Fox naming their new Maibock after the lucky goat. For more information, check it out here.
Broad Street Run – Sunday, May 3
Running the ten miles down Broad Street or just celebrating with those that do? Either way you deserve a beer and Be Well Philly knows where.
Cinco de Mayo celebrations also kick off this weekend, like a boozy brunch at Lolita’s and five days of drink deals at Cantina Dos Segundos, so check out our Cinco de Mayo guide for more places to guzzle drinks this weekend and next week.
And for those of you looking for something a bit more… pastoral, we also have a roundup of farmers market events happening this weekend.
