Luna Cafe Opening In Old City
Luna Cafe is a small 30-seat BYOB that will open Friday, February 20th at 317 Market Street, where Panini’s Trattoria was located. The menu will feature American bistro-style cuisine and all ingredients will be locally sourced from products grown on farms within 100 miles of Philadelphia.
Owner Sarah Levine is taking the leap after her own experience working in the restaurant biz, from wait staff to line cook, in places such as Chart House and Westin’s Winthorpe and Valentine. She earned a BA at Temple University for business administration and an MBA at Drexel University for entrepreneurship.
Chef Jordan Andino helped create the menu and now chef Matthew Cummins is taking over the kitchen. Cummin’s is from Ogden, Utah and has cooked in various restaurants across the country.
Along with locally sourced ingredients, Luna Cafe will also offer a variety of certified organic and fair trade beverages. Levine and her team are committed to creating a sustainable environment in her restaurant, from eco-friendly take-out containers to cleaning products.
“I am very passionate about community involvement, supporting sustainable farming, and providing local fare,” Levine said. “I am trying to build Luna around these concepts and offer a unique menu made with as many locally sourced ingredients as possible.”
The restaurant will offer fresh juices such as a green juice with kale, celery, lemon, cucumber, spinach and apple and a mixed berry juice with raspberry, blueberry and honey. Along with juices, the cafe will have mixers, like fresh lime margarita, for customers who BYO.
On opening day, the cafe will offer a complimentary glass of champagne to all guests who attend. Reservations are encouraged and can be made on OpenTable.
Luna Cafe will be open Tuesday through Friday from 11 am to 10 pm. On Saturdays and Sundays, it will open at 10 am for brunch.
