Mushroom Festival This Weekend

Kennett Square, The Mushroom Capital of the World, will host its 29th annual Mushroom Festival on September 6th and 7th at 600 Broad Street in Kennett. Saturday’s portion of the festival will run from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., while Sunday’s will run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $2 per person. Proceeds from the sale of the admission wristbands goes toward the Mushroom Festival’s grant program.

The Festival will feature various street vendors (including Mushroom Sale Booths selling the freshest mushrooms you’ve ever tasted), a souvenir booth, the official festival mushroom soup and painted mushrooms from local artists as a part of the silent bid. Most importantly, joining the Festival will be Fun Gus, the Festival’s adorable mushroom mascot.

A soup and wine event in which local restaurants bring their own mushroom soups for a head-to-head battle will also take place. Restaurants participating include Buckley’s TavernFire Hill PubOle Tapas Lounge and Restaurant and others.

And if soup and wine doesn’t float your boat, there will also be a separate culinary tent, mushroom growers exhibit and the National Fried Mushroom Eating Championship.
