UPDATED: Checking In On The Redesign At Jake’s And Cooper’s Wine Bar
Free lot parking in Manayunk may just be reason enough to venture out to the newly reconstituted Jake’s and Cooper’s Wine Bar, though diners who’ve patronized Bruce Cooper’s award-winning Main Street spot for the past 25 years will probably want to check out the latest reconceptualization that has the Jake’s side of the operation finally eliminating most traces of its fine-dining history in order to meet 21st century Philadelphia where it’s at today.
To mark its embarkation into its second quarter-century, Cooper has redecorated Jake’s with a décor that’s much more casual and seamlessly ties it to the adjoining wine bar. He’s also entirely combined menus to focus on more casual trends like cheeses, charcuterie, elaborate salads, gourmet pizzas and small plates–though a few staple entrees from Jake’s remain.
But before they spot the menu, old-timers will immediately notice one big difference: the wine. Not only has Cooper installed a glass wine tower in the dining room, but he’s revamped the list to focus on value wines from prominent global wine-producing regions.
But don’t drink too much or you might forget to get your parking ticket validated. And that would truly be a waste of a trip to Manayunk.
