Black Friday Black Out: Dark Beer Rules the Taps


So yes we know Black Friday is a big shopping day, but who says it can’t be a big drinking day too? And it seems like every bar out there is running specials with black and other dark beers.

Bottle Bar East is bringing you Black Friday Black Out. They’ll have black beer sampling all day, 8 drafts devoted to black beers, and will even be cooking up some black food to go along with the fun. Stocking stuffer raffle giveaways will also be going on, as well as a sale on all gift sets, bombers, and black beers.

City Tap House is going dark for the day. Into the Black will be a celebration of dark beers. Check out their beer list here. For $35 you can get a keepsake glass and 10 drink tokens good 6-ounce pours.

Farmers’ Cabinet – Bartender Rocco Renzetti is curating a tap takeover of dark beers. Also pouring, a rare firkin of Etienne DuPont Brut cider.

Grey Lodge, the Northeast’s beer bar is hosting Oskar (Blues) the Grouch night. The Best of Philly winning Scoats says this is believed to the world’s first garbage can focused beer event. And one of the special Oskar Blues beers that will be pouring will be 10-Fidy. A beer as dark as coal.

Institute – Spend $12 or more during brunch and get a free glass of Troegs Mad Elf or Brew Works Rude Elf. At night “The Scrapple Creek Runners” will play old time country music on the second floor.

Local 44 isn’t doing a complete blackout but they are pouring ten Allagash beers including Black, Bourbon Black and Smoke and Beards.

Kraftwork and Sidecar are hosting twin funky Blackout brunches featuring Bells Black Note Bourbon Aged Stout. Both bars are also offering special brunch menus that include items like Thanksgiving Biscuits & Gravy, Crispy Mashed Potatoes & Country Ham Benedict, Pumpkin French Toast and Spiced Cranberry Pancakes.

Memphis Taproom is offering Everything Went Black brunch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The bar has a full line up of dark beers all day long, including Birrificio Del Ducato My Blueberry Nightmare, Dogfish Head Miles Davis Bitches Brew (2010) and Leipziger Porticus.
