Bastille Day Celebrations This Weekend

Nobody does Bastille Day in Philadelphia like Fairmount. Eastern State Penitentiary plays the part of the Bastille and Fairmount Avenue becomes a Parisian boulevard. London Grill and its new sister establishment, Paris Wine Bar, promise to make this year’s festivities the biggest yet.

Fairmount certainly goes overboard when it comes to Bastille Day but it is hardly the only place that will be celebrating. Peter Woolsey’s Bistrot La Minette has a feast and special drinks planned tonight through Sunday. The 6th Street restaurant will be offering several choices for soup, main course and dessert, along with a 12-item second-course buffet: salads, pâte, quiche, etc. The feast costs $40 and doors will openan hour earlier (4:00 p.m.) on the 14th. Full Menu. La Minette will also be offering the following cocktails:

  • Le Bastille Bastille Whiskey, Vieux Carré Absinthe, Peychaud bitters $9
  • Liberté Pernod, Water, fresh lime juice, simple syrup, English cucumbers $9
  • Égalité Lillet Blanc, bluecoat gin, Angostura orange bitters  $9
  • Fraternité Meteor beer, St Germain liqueur $8
  • Kir Royal $11

On the Main Line, Ella’s American Bistro in Wayne will be a little less American with French specials including sautéed escargot, chicken liver pate, and rabbit fricassee. Ella’s will also have three Parisian inspired cocktails available; French 75, French Raspberry Mint Daiquiri, and Vanilla French Kiss—all  for $7.
