BYOPhilly
An online database serves the BYOB scene
BYOPhilly provides access to a database of Philadelphia area restaurants where you are permitted to bring your own wine, with or without a corkage fee.
An informal group, which calls itself WineLovers, surveyed 1,155 restaurants, excluding fast-food joints, within 30 miles of Center City. It found that 650 restaurants – 56 percent, including 179 restaurants with liquor licenses – now allow patrons to bring their own. It counted 471 restaurants that do not have liquor licenses but allow BYOB.
Members prefer to remain anonymous and have no affiliation to restaurants, wineries or wine merchants, said spokeswoman Freddi Goldstein, who credited a March 12 Inquirer article about the BYOB explosion for inspiration. The free, noncommercial site is accessible through byophilly.com.
