Vick To Have MRI, CT Scan On Ribs
Michael Vick exited with a rib injury in the first quarter against the Patriots Monday night after being drilled by linebacker Jermaine Cunningham.
X-rays came back negative, but Vick will have an MRI and a CT scan to determine if there is cartilage damage.
“He’s sore,” Andy Reid said. “He was trying to talk me into going back in, so how sore is sore? He got a good shot there. The precautionary measure is just to see if it’s involving cartilage there, and that’s why we’re doing it.”
Reid wasn’t ready to say that Vick will be held out the rest of the preseason.
“If he didn’t play again, I think he’s ok,” Reid said. “I would tell you I’d probably like to see him play a little bit more, but he’s got enough experience. We’re not talking about a rookie, so I think he’d be ok.”
Vick was spinning to evade pressure and ended up in Cunningham’s crosshairs. Following the crushing blow, Vick was seen grabbing his left side. After briefly getting to his feet he took a knee as trainers came out to evaluate the signal-caller. He eventually made his way to the sidelines before heading inside to have x-rays taken on his ribs.
Reid was asked if the hit was one where Vick could have done a better job protecting himself.
“I wouldn’t put that into that category,” he said.
Nick Foles replaced Vick under center.
Vick has a history of rib injuries. He broke a pair of ribs against the Cardinals last November and missed the next three games. In 2010 he sustained a rib cartilage injury and did not see action again until almost a month later.
Elsewhere on the injury front, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie exited with a shoulder injury in the first half, but Reid said that he’s had a similar injury before and wanted to go back in.
Linebacker Jamar Chaney and safety Oshiomogho Atogwe were held out with hamstring injuries. And safety Tom Nelson suffered a high ankle sprain.
