About
Dr. Karen Kandel Conn is a Board-Certified Orthodontist and a co-owner of Bryn Mawr Orthodontics. Dr. Conn has been recognized as a Philadelphia Magazine Top Dentist, Main Line Today Top Dentist, Suburban Family Magazine Top Orthodontist, Main Line Parent LOVE award recipient, Jewish Exponent’s Best of Philadelphia Top Orthodontist, and appeared on Incisal Edge Magazine’s national “40 Under 40” list of innovative professionals in dentistry. Recently, Dr. Conn was awarded The Lucy Hobbs Award for Clinical Expert, a prestigious national professional award that recognized Dr. Conn for being a pioneer in dentistry and setting new standards in clinical care. Dr. Conn was recognized for “treating extraordinarily complex cases and delivering high-quality outcomes.”
Dr. Conn is driven by her desire to provide patients with the same life-changing moment that she had as an adolescent on the day her braces were removed. The impact of an orthodontist’s transformative treatment of her set Dr. Conn on a path from high school straight to the University of Pennsylvania’s Seven-Year Bio-Dental Program. Through this highly-selective program, Dr. Conn earned both her undergraduate degree, magna cum laude, and graduated from Penn’s School of Dental Medicine. After dental school, Dr. Conn completed a residency in Orthodontics at Temple University, where she also earned a Master of Science degree in Oral Biology and published a research thesis on the association between dentofacial genetics and sleep apnea. Dr. Conn maintains her connection to academia by lecturing to dental residents, mentoring undergrads looking to pursue dentistry, and conducting alumni interviews of undergraduate applicants to Penn.
Throughout her career, Dr. Conn has prided herself on using the most technologically-advanced and innovative approaches to braces and Invisalign. Notably, Dr. Conn has received the S. Eugene Coben Award for “Advancing the Field of Orthodontics.” She was also featured in a cover story about the future of orthodontics published in The Bulletin, a magazine distributed globally by the American Association of Orthodontists. Dr. Conn is the leader of a Spear Study Club, which is a multidisciplinary group of local dentists who meet regularly to discuss methods to elevate the quality of dental care in the community.
Dr. Conn’s family and friends often remark that it was unusual (maybe a little strange?) for her to develop an interest in orthodontics at such a young age, especially without a dentist in her family. But it means that it is not an overstatement to say that Dr. Conn is truly fulfilling her lifelong dream each time she treats a patient at Bryn Mawr Orthodontics… She loves exceeding patients’ expectations and is passionate about providing the highest quality of personalized care and infusing each of her doctor-patient relationships with confidence and trust.
Dr. Conn lives in Penn Valley with her husband and their two children. When she is not creating beautiful smiles, you might find Dr. Conn using her love of photography to document her kids’ activities, giving back to the community through various philanthropic pursuits, spending summer weekends at the Jersey Shore, jogging (very slowly), and eating lots and lots of pizza.
