Mistrial in Reputed Mobster’s Murder Trial

Two jurors were dismissed from the murder trial of alleged mobster Anthony Nicodemo today, leading the judge to declare a mistrial. The Inquirer’s Joseph Slobodzian reports the defense case in the trial was supposed to begin today, but only 11 jurors were brought back into court.

The two jurors — a male juror and an alternate — were dismissed for undisclosed reasons. Philadelphia Common Pleas Court Judge Jeffrey P. Minehart told the Inquirer “there are questions that still need to be answered but I can’t comment further.” Another alternate had been dismissed previously for reading media coverage of the trial.

Nicodemo is accused of killing Gino DiPietro on December 12th, 2012, in South Philadelphia. The Daily News’ William Bender reported last year DiPietro may have been killed because of the belief he testified against his step-cousin.
