PHOTOS: Inside Target’s Brand New South Philly and Devon Stores
Grand openings for each store take place this Sunday, and early birds can snag some complementary items. Here's what you'll find at each location.
Two new small-format Target stores will open their doors in the region this weekend. Come Sunday, locals in South Philly and Devon will have another shopping destination in their rotation.
Grand openings for both stores will kick off bright and early on Sunday at 8 a.m., with in-store celebrations highlighting what each location has to offer. Plus, the first 1,000 customers to arrive at each store that morning will receive a free reusable shopping bag.
The stores, one at Broad Street and Washington Avenue at the new Lincoln Square development, and the other at 704 W. Lancaster Ave in Devon, will pack the essential offerings of larger Targets into 36,000 and 57,000-square-foot spaces, respectively.
And the retailer’s normal arsenal of items will be on-hand from apparel, home essentials, and fresh produce to grab-and-go food and beverages, beauty products and personal care items. Both locations also boast Order Pickup, the service that allows customers to shop for items online for pickup at the store. Target says 95 percent of online orders will be available for in-store pickup within an hour.
The two stores aren’t entirely the same, however. The Devon small-format store includes a Starbucks, while the South Philly store has a CVS Pharmacy.
The new locations are Target’s seventh and eighth small-format stores in the region, products of the retailer’s rapid expansion in urban areas.
Target hopes to have 130 small-formats open by the end of next year, focusing on operating in cities, dense suburbs and near college campuses. The Devon location, for example, is just a 10-minute drive from Cabrini University’s campus.
The company has a small-format store opening planned for Ardmore in July 2019, though Lower Merion residents have petitioned against the proposal. Target last opened a small-format store near the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
The South Philly and Devon stores held private ribbon cuttings this week. Below are scenes from each event that offer a sneak peek into each store:
