12 Philadelphia-Area Companies Make the Fortune 500 for 2018
Two local companies slipped off the list from last year while many others dropped in rank. To make the celebrated ranking, companies had to bring in at least $5.4 billion in revenue in 2017.
This week Fortune released its highly anticipated Fortune 500 list, which has ranked the country’s largest corporations by revenue for more than six decades.
To make the list, companies simply need to “make more money than everybody else,” Fortune said. For the 2018 ranking, that means bringing in at least $5.4 billion in revenue in 2017. The overall market value of the companies on the list jumped 11 percent to $21.6 trillion, the second time in history when the top 500 combined passed the one trillion dollar mark in profits.
It’s undeniable that the Fortune 500 represents that country’s most influential companies. Walmart is still no. 1 for the sixth straight year, and cracking the top ten for the first time is none other Amazon at no. 8.
In the Philadelphia region, 12 companies made the Fortune 500, a slight decrease from last year’s total of 14. Kennett Square’s Genesis Health Care and Radnor’s Airgas slipped off. Airgas was acquired by France’s Air Liquide in late 2016 and was therefore ineligible for the Fortune 500.
While many companies on the list, including AmerisourceBergen, Comcast, Campbell Soup and Aramark slipped in ranking, a few like Lincoln National jumped in rank.
Here’s the complete list:
