Philly Named Top Family Vacation Destination in U.S.
A company that makes travel guides for kids has ranked Philly its top destination for family vacations.
Philly took the top spot in the rankings determined by ABC Travel Guides for Kids. Among the company’s products: A scavenger hunt game to find some of Philly’s best-known sculptures.
But there are plenty of other things for parents and their kids to do in the city, the company said.
Here’s the rundown:
“Time for an authentic Philly cheesesteak and a visit to the City of Brotherly Love as Franklin Square turns 10 and the National Constitution Center hosts Headed to the White House this election year. Kimpton, Omni and Loews Hotels love families. Best ice cream parlor is The Franklin Fountain.”
Chicago and Orlando rounded out the company’s top three destinations — although we’re guessing that if we polled kids about whether they prefer a trip to Disney World or the National Constitution Center, the rankings might be considerably different.
Still, the study is the latest bit of evidence that everything is coming up roses for Philly’s tourism industry. Just before Christmas, Visit Philadelphia reported that the city’s hotel occupancy rate has reached an all-time high — with leisure travel surging. In fact, it accounted for 31 percent of Center City hotel room nights in 2015 but just 14 percent in 1997.
“People are coming for Philadelphia,” said Meryl Levitz, president and CEO of Visit Philadelphia in a statement. “The destination itself is the reason to visit, and travelers are doing it more and more every year.”
