Philly Law Firm Announces Huge Merger Deal
The law firm Fox Rothschild just announced a plan that will swell the firm to 700 attorneys and give it a strong foothold in the Midwest. It’s merging with Minneapolis-based law firm of Oppenheimer Wolff & Donnelly LLP and absorbing 82 Oppenheimer attorneys.
The move boosts Fox Rothschild’s attorney count more than 10 percent and is the firm’s largest acquisition in nearly 10 years.
“Establishing a strong presence in the Upper Midwest is an important component in Fox’s overall strategic growth plan,” said Mark Silow managing partner at Fox Rothschild in a statement. “The Oppenheimer firm offers us a chance to enter this important market in a robust way, adding an established group of attorneys with strong client relationships and deep roots in the community.”
The firm specializes in legal advice for things like financial services, medical technology, mergers and acquisitions, and real estate finances. Fox has grown through mergers in the past two years, recently opening offices in Chicago and Dallas. It now has offices in 12 states — California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Illinois, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas and the District of Columbia.
The merger goes into effect on January 1.
“This is also an especially good fit because our firms share many of the same strengths,” said Silow, “and our clients will benefit from the depth we are adding with the Oppenheimer attorneys, especially in commercial litigation, corporate and M&A work.”
It’s certainly a large merger but not quite the largest in recent memory. That designation goes to Morgan Lewis, which acquired more than 500 lawyers and 250 staff from Bingham McCutchen in Boston last year.
