Open Thread: Eagles vs. Buccaneers
The Eagles kick off the preseason against the Buccaneers tonight at 7 p.m. There will be plenty of things to discuss, from Doug Pederson’s first game as a head coach to Carson Wentz’s debut performance. Jump in the comments below, and we’ll periodically update this thread.
10:12 – That’s it from the Linc. The Eagles hold off the Buccaneers 17-9.
10:11 – Tampa Bay converts a 4th down, but the following play, C.J. Smith picks off Griffin in the endzone. That should do it with 50 seconds left.
10:09 – Nick Perry nearly picks off a Ryan Griffin pass, but the Bucs continue their drive on the 19-yard line with 1:40 left to play.
10:06 – We’ve reached the two minute warning. Bucs driving down the field, now at the Eagle 32-yard line with 1:57 left in the game. Birds still lead 17-9.
10:00 – Wentz’s night is done. Here comes McLeod Bethel-Thompson. Wentz finishes 12-of-24 with 89 yards passing and an interception.
9:54 – Wentz gets hit hard around the waist area by Micah Awe. Got a little shaken up afterwards, but he looks fine.

9:44 – Roberto Aguayo makes a 38-yard field goal to cut the Eagles lead to 17-9 with 8:07 remaining in the game. 8 plays, 55 yards in 3:07 for the Bucs.

9:35 – Cody Parkey kicking it off. Both guys have nearly split all the kicks so far in this game.
9:34 – Wentz scrambles and ends up getting flipped by a Buccaneer. Caleb Sturgis converts a 42-yard field goal. Eagles lead 17-6 with 11:14 left in the game.
9:31 – A crazy sequence of events. C.J. Smith knocks a catch away from Jonathan Krause, which is then bobbled by Blake Countess, and into the hands of Quentin Gause for the interception. Eagles at the Tampa Bay 33.
9:26 – We’ve reached the end of the 3rd quarter. Eagles still lead 14-6.
9:18 – Steven Means gets a forced fumble off the edge on that last Buccaneer drive.
9:16 – Update on Josh Andrews: He has a right ankle injury and has been taken in for X-rays. His return is questionable.
9:13 – Wentz’s pass intercepted by Isaiah Johnson. Pass intended for Paul Turner. 35-yard return by Johnson.

9:07 – Wentz shows off his mobility with a 9-yard run, plus a slide.
9:04 – Josh Andrews shaken up on the field after a 4-yard run by Cedric O’Neal.
8:51 – Second half underway, Eagles receiving the kick.
8:47 – Take a look at Tim’s observations at the half.
8:43 – Notable stats from the first half: Carson Wentz went 2-5 with 22 yards passing, while Chase Daniel went 4-10 with 15 yards passing. Daniel was sacked four time for 19 yards.
Kenjon Barner is the team’s leading rusher with seven carries for 35 yards. Daniel and Ryan Mathews have rushing touchdowns, both of which came in the opening quarter.
Zach Ertz has three receptions for 26 yards on five targets, the most out of any receiver and back.
Defensively, Chris Maragos has an interception and a fumble recovery, while Fletcher Cox also recovered a fumble. Cox recorded a sack, while Beau Allen and Connor Barwin recorded a half a sack.
8:37 – We’re at halftime here at the Linc. Eagles still lead the Buccaneers 14-6.

8:33 – Wentz makes two good throws down the middle to Zach Ertz and Randle.
8:31 – Joe Walker with a stop on 4th and 1, and Carson Wentz has come into the game. He’s greeted by a loud ovation.
8:27 – We’ve entered the two minute warning. Eagles still up 14-6 in the 2nd quarter.
8:24 – Daniel’s pass intended for Rueben Randle nearly picked off by rookie corner Vernon Hargreaves III.
8:18 – Chris Maragos intercepts Glennon’s pass intended for former Eagle Jonathan Krause. Good pressure by Steven Means on that play as well. Eagles take over at their own 26-yard line.
8:12 – Chase Daniel has gone 3-for-7 with 12 yards passing, but has been sacked four times for 19 yards.
8:07 – Connor Barwin and Beau Allen combine for the team’s second sack of the game.
8:04 – Crowd begins “We Want Wentz” chants after the Daniel sack.
8:02 – Daniel gets sacked for the third time in the game. There’s 11:34 left in the 2nd quarter.
7:56 – Tampa Bay’s first team offense is done for the night. Mike Glennon is in at quarterback and goes three-and-out.
7:52 – We’re done the first quarter. Eagles lead 14-6.
7:44 – Chase Daniel after three series: 1-for-4 with three yards and a rushing touchdown. Hasn’t looked very good to start.

7:36 – Winston completes a 26-yard pass to Russell Shepard for the touchdown. Rookie kicker Roberto Aguayo misses the extra point. 7 plays, 79 yards in 3:06 for Tampa Bay. Eagles lead 14-6 with 7:01 left in the 1st quarter.

7:29 – Touchdown is good, Parkey makes the extra point. 14-0 Eagles with 10:07 left in the opening quarter. Eagles scoring drive: Three plays for nine yards in 47 seconds.
7:25 – Daniel runs in from three yards for the score, but it’s getting challenged. His knee was down at around the one, but it looks like he wasn’t touched.
7:23 – Not a good start for Jameis Winston for the Bucs. After a three-and-out, he gets sacked by Fletcher Cox and fumbles the ball. Cox recovers, Eagles take over at the Tampa Bay nine.
7:18 – Brandon Brooks is out of the game with a right bicep injury. Chase Daniel takes over for Bradford at QB.

7:14 – Cody Parkey kicked off for the Eagles this time, while Jaylen Watkins is starting alongside Rodney McLeod at safety instead of Chris Maragos.
7:11 – Eagles went 18 yards on three plays, with Mathews rushing for 15 yards on two carries.
7:09 – Ryan Mathews runs it in from five yards in for the first touchdown of the preseason. Sturgis makes the extra point. Eagles up seven with 14:05 left in the opening quarter.
7:07 – Najee Goode forces Kenny Bell to fumble, Chris Maragos scoops it up at the Tampa Bay 18. We won’t have to wait long for Sam Bradford and crew.
