Cox ‘Expecting To Be At Training Camp’
Fletcher Cox briefly addressed reporters prior to practice Wednesday. He declined to talk about his contract, saying he was going to keep the discussions between the Eagles and his agent Todd France private while focusing on the here and now.
Cox has been training back in Mississippi and claims he is in the same type of shape he normally would be this time of year. He has missed most of the offseason program, though, and is easing back into the action.
“It was a coach’s decision to limit me because I haven’t been practicing and everybody else had eight weeks of football,” he said. “Just a smart move by the coaching staff to kind of ease me back in.”
Darren Sproles has also been absent but was able to participate in team drills Tuesday. Doug Pederson explained that difference by saying simply that Sproles is a “different beast.” There has been speculation that there may be an agreement between Cox’s rep and the team to limit the defensive tackle’s exposure to injury while negotiations are ongoing, but both parties claim that’s not the case.
Cox was asked if he will definitely be in attendance for training camp even if a new deal isn’t worked out by then.
“I’m expecting to be at training camp, yes.”
