Former Eagles safety Walter Thurmond is retiring, ESPN’s Adam Schefter first reported. Les Bowen of the Daily News wrote in March that Thurmond was contemplating the move after a six-year career.

According to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport, Thurmond turned down contract offers of more than $4 million per year. Thurmond, a free agent, spent last season in Philadelphia after spending one year with the Giants and four years with the Seahawks. The defensive back was a fourth-round draft pick out of Oregon in 2010, before winning a Super Bowl with Seattle during 2013.

The 28-year-old battled injuries throughout his career, including 2014 when he missed 14 games because of a torn pectoral muscle. Thurmond didn’t miss a game as an Eagle, however, and he intercepted three passes in the first five games of the season.
