Carson Wentz Signs Rookie Deal
Carson Wentz was a little delayed in getting to Philadelphia because of the NFL’s graduation rule, but once he did, he immediately put pen to paper.
Wentz signed his four-year deal Thursday on the eve of rookie minicamp. The entire Eagles’ 2016 draft class is now under contract.
Some details:
Based on #NFL rookie wage slot, Eagles-Wentz deal should be worth approx $26,67M with SB around$17.6M

Carson Wentz deal contains offsets for guaranteed money; Wentz told Eagles he’d agree to that term before they traded to No. 2, per source.

Guarantees in all Philly deals have offsets because of Nnamdi Asomugha (paid $4M salary guarantee in 2013 when cut due to no offsets).

Offset language allows a team to recoup money if they decide to release a player and that player ends up signing elsewhere. As Corry notes, the Eagles have been burned by not having offsets in contracts before and now insist they be included.
With Wentz on board with the idea, he becomes the first of the top-five picks to sign.
