Eagles Draft Thread: 4/29
Between now and the draft, we’ll have daily threads with the latest mocks, buzz and relevant links. Check back throughout the day for updates.
3:13 p.m.: Some Sam Bradford notes from Ian Rapoport.
Some have asked if #Eagles could deal Sam Bradford in trade up to No. 2. #Titans inquired with #Rams about Bradford months ago. (1/2).
— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) April 29, 2015
If #Titans wanted Sam Bradford, they would’ve been more engaged with #Rams about trading for him before he was sent to Philly. (2/2)

3:09 p.m.: A non-Marcus Mariota Eagles rumor from former scout Russell Lande. He’s hearing that Miami receiver Phillip Dorsett is in play at No. 20.
2:32 p.m.: Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean fires off a series of noteworthy tweets:
Rt now, a whole lot of buzz over little re potential #Browns–#Titans trade for 2. Don’t get sense offer made and 12 & 19 sure wouldn’t do it
— Jim Wyatt (@jwyattsports) April 29, 2015
#Titans are talking to a bunch of teams about pick No.2. GM Ruston Webster said it himself Tues. Expecting those convos to cont until pick — Jim Wyatt (@jwyattsports) April 29, 2015
Those hoping the #Titans trade for #Chargers QB Philip Rivers (which I believe was Plan A), it doesn’t sound like that’s going to happen…
— Jim Wyatt (@jwyattsports) April 29, 2015
#Titans options one day before the draft: 1 Draft a QB (Mariota, assuming TB takes Winston) 2 Trade the pick and get a haul from some1 else — Jim Wyatt (@jwyattsports) April 29, 2015
If the Chargers are in fact out, the Eagles’ path to Mariota just got easier.
12:48 p.m.: It sounds like the Browns are still in the mix for the No. 2 pick.
WOW! – CLE offers two 1st-round picks to TEN for No. 2 overall selection in Draft where they would take Marcus Mariota. (via @PatMcManamon)
— NFL on ESPN (@ESPNNFL) April 29, 2015
That would be picks No. 12 and 19. My guess is Cleveland would have to throw something else in. So do you love or hate this time of year? From another ESPN reporter:
#Titans source: #Browns have not made an offer for No. 2. — Paul Kuharsky (@PaulKuharskyNFL) April 29, 2015
My immediate thought was that perhaps Tennessee was trying to drive up the price for the second pick, but Kuharsky says specifically that a Titans source shot down the report.
12:28 p.m.: He knows the league and value well.
No doubt in my mind Eagles will make a serious run at Mariota. Going from 20-2 is expensive, but let’s not act like it can’t happen. — Joe Banner (@JoeBanner13) April 29, 2015
12:20 p.m.: Tim touched on this idea in his earlier post.
Were I the Titans, would ask Eagles for ascending, proven young players w/contract control instead of picks: Cox, Matthews, Ertz, etc. — Andrew Brandt (@adbrandt) April 29, 2015
9:58 a.m.: An old friend is hearing things.
Teams with picks 2-5 all trying to trade back. Could make things very interesting. — Joe Banner (@JoeBanner13) April 29, 2015
9:55 a.m.: Not sure what to make of this.
Titans want to be inside top “16 or 17” picks to insure they get impact player, so Eagles, for instance, will need to get cute at No. 20. — Jeff Darlington (@JeffDarlington) April 29, 2015
9:40 a.m.: If the Titans stay put and pass on Marcus Mariota, I wonder how far he’ll fall.
So many draft analysts love Mariota. So many personnel people I talked with don’t. Maybe I am missing something too. Don’t see it. — Pete Prisco (@PriscoCBS) April 29, 2015
9:25 a.m.: Telling Tweet from NFL Network’s Jeff Darlington.
Despite Titans’ praise of Mariota, 1 big reason this isn’t done: Titans aren’t just taking calls about a trade — they’re making calls, too. — Jeff Darlington (@JeffDarlington) April 29, 2015
Sticking to my stance from yesterday (this is Sheil): I think the Titans want to trade out. And if they don’t find a deal they like, I think they’ll take someone other than Mariota.
9 a.m.: I still think the smart money is on the Bucs taking Jameis Winston, but who knows?
I’m live from Tampa with latest on #Bucs thinking on the No. 1 overall pick. GM Jason Licht says trade inquiries on the rise. #SportsCenter — Ed Werder (@Edwerderespn) April 29, 2015
8:07 a.m.: Tough to tell whether this is the Chargers trying to create leverage or the truth.
Mentioned on @AmericasPregame Chargers met with Philip Rivers’ agent in person late last week. Team remains intent on extending his deal. — Mike Garafolo (@MikeGarafolo) April 28, 2015
As we’ve mentioned before, if the Chargers are looking to move Philip Rivers to land Mariota at No. 2, there’s likely no realistic offer the Eagles can put on the table to match them.
