Gardner Steps In For Tobin
Matt Tobin suffered a concussion against the Packers and sat out practice for the second straight day. Chip Kelly said the injury occurred during the last drive and that Tobin notified the trainers in the locker room after the game.
Andrew Gardner has been getting the first-team reps in Tobin’s absence this week.
“Andrew is real versatile,” said Kelly. “He’s played both positions (guard and tackle) for us and when he’s been in there he’s done a good job for us.”
Tobin played five games at left guard before switching over to right guard when Evan Mathis returned and Todd Herremans went down. He has yielded seven quarterback hits, 11 QB hurries and a sack this season, according to Pro Football Focus. Gardner has played snaps at right tackle, left tackle and right guard this year.
Mychal Kendricks returned to practice after sitting Tuesday out.
Earl Wolff was placed on injured reserve yesterday. Kelly was asked about the move.
“I had a long talk with him on Monday about where he was and that his leg was really bothering him, so had him sit down with Dr. DeLuca and Chris Peduzzi and they went and got another MRI on him and he doesn’t seem like he’s healing from his injury so they made a decision to shut him down,” he said.
