Pilates has been around for over 100 years, yet it has surged in popularity of late. The latest favorite iteration? With some heat! That’s right: Hot Pilates is on the rise.

It’s exactly what it sounds like: Low-impact movements intensified by high temps. (The added heat is meant to improve your flexibility, endurance, and blood circulation, among other benefits.) In the Philly area, hot Pilates takes place on a mat and is often supplemented with props like hand and/or ankle weights, exercise balls, and bands. Intrigued? Here’s where to take your Pilates practice to the next level — and get sweaty! — in and around Philadelphia.

Breathing Dragon Yoga

1717 South Easton Road, Doylestown

Primarily a hot yoga studio, Breathing Dragon also hosts “Inferno,” a hot Pilates class offered in levels one and two. Both run 60 minutes and are heated to 90 to 100 degrees, but level two incorporates bands and weights to intensify the workout.

The Den Yoga & Wellness Studio

3360 Grant Avenue, Northeast Philly

Come to this new studio in the far Northeast for hot Pilates using ankle and hand weights, an exercise ball, and other props. Also on the schedule: hot yoga, heated stretching, and non-heated beginners yoga and Pilates.

Focus Bryn Mawr

1111 West Lancaster Avenue, suite D, Bryn Mawr

The hot Pilates classes at Focus Bryn Mawr occur in Studio A, which is warmed to a spicy 95 degrees by infrared heaters. Catch a session every weekday at noon, plus morning and evening slots throughout the week.

HOTFLO Studios

9107 Town Center Boulevard, suite 3097, Voorhees, New Jersey

If you want to sweat during all your workouts, head to HOTFLO Studios in Voorhees. Their 45-minute Pilates Sculpt class — heated to 96 degrees — combines mat work focused on core and glutes with a kettlebell regimen. Come back for hot Bikram- and vinyasa-style yoga sessions and indoor cycling.

The Hot Room

Every workout — from Pilates and barre to yoga, rebounding, and boxing — at The Hot Room in Packer Park is heated. Pilates is offered multiple times daily, so you can enjoy it no matter if you’re an early bird, lunch-break enthusiast, or night owl.

HOTWORX

Multiple locations

Classes at any HOTWORX location — there are outposts in Northeast Philly, Chalfont, Wayne, Media, Doylestown, Langhorne, and Trevose — take place inside infrared saunas, and can fit up to three people, perfect for a solo or semi-private sweat sesh. Members get unlimited, 24-hour access to the brand’s virtual workouts, including Pilates.

HPY Philly

1155 South 20th Street, Point Breeze

Opened April 2024, this Point Breeze fitness studio runs infrared-heated yoga (Baptiste-inspired vinyasa and yin), mat Pilates, and a yoga/Pilates/strength training fusion. (There are also non-heated classes, like HPY Foundations and HPY Baby, which is prenatal-focused.) Even better: HPY is opening a second location this spring.

Hot Yoga Philadelphia

1520 Sansom Street, 3rd floor, Rittenhouse

Hot Yoga Philly has been welcoming yogis in its 105-degree-heated studio for over 20 years. For Pilates, expect an intense full-body workout that leans a bit into HIIT and cardio.

Hot Yoga Sutra

4715 Pine Street, West Philly

In addition to Bikram, vinyasa, and yin yoga practices, catch a hot Pilates workout at this West Philly boutique. The 45-minute class focuses on building core strength and incorporates HIIT-style training.

Laughing Buddha Hot Yoga

943 Kings Highway, West Deptford, New Jersey and 279 Egg Harbor Road, Sewell, New Jersey

At both Laughing Buddha’s West Deptford and Sewell studios, find two hot Pilates options: mat Pilates and Inferno. The former is a more traditional mat class, while the latter is higher intensity with cardio bursts and a faster pace. Both range 99 to 105 degrees.

Manayunk’s premier strength training studio also hosts heated Pilates that incorporates the tabata method. Expect a 60-minute, full-body workout in 85 degrees.

The class schedule at Wanderlust is stacked, with hot Pilates (of course!), hot barre, hot power yoga, and hot dance fusion, as well as non-heated rebounding, yin yoga, mat Pilates, prenatal yoga, and more.
