As a newbie golfer looking to get into the sport for the first time (or someone who just wants to spend more time on the green), you might not be interested in shelling out for an expensive tee time. That’s why we’ve rounded up some of the best budget-friendly golf spots within a two-hour drive of Philadelphia where you can experience a real course without a huge investment.

Bella Vista Golf Course
Drive from Philly: 1 hour (2901 Fagleysville Road, Gilbertsville)
Best tee time price: $27
This Montgomery County course has secluded country-feel vibes. It features rolling greens, an island green on the 14th hole, and up to 6,474 yards of play. Based on pricing, your best bet is to visit during the week when prices range from $27 to $65, depending on time of day and cart opt-in. (Pro tip: Twilight is always inexpensive here.) If weekend play is your thing, go after 2 p.m. to keep costs under $65.
Berkleigh Golf Club*
Drive from Philly: 1 hour and 30 minutes (14623 Kutztown Road, Kutztown)
Best tee time price: $35
A once-private club founded by the residents of Berks and Lehigh counties, this Kutztown staple has been open to the public since 2007. Tee times on Fridays through Sunday are around $65, but the best bang for your buck is Monday through Thursdays when prices range from $35 to $42. (Note: Rental clubs are not available at Berkleigh.)
Broad Run Golfer’s Club*
Drive from Philly: 1 hour (1520 Tattersall Way, West Chester)
Best tee time price: $70
Though the lush Broad Run in West Chester can get pricey, the most savvy players know they can often snag a weekday tee time for under $70 after 12 p.m. That way, you can play the premiere 6,751 yards without paying a premium price.
The Bucks Club
Drive from Philly: 50 minutes (2600 York Road, Jamison)
Best tee time price: $30
Nestled in upper Bucks County, The Bucks Club’s golf course features 18 holes and rolling greens that’ll make both novices and seasoned golfers feel at home. Plus, the club offers private and group instruction from their in-house PGA teaching pro. Monday through Friday, you can snag a tee time after 11 a.m. for as low as $30 walking, or $40 if you prefer a cart.
Five Ponds Golf Club
Drive from Philly: 45 minutes (1225 West Street Road, Warminster)
Best tee time price: $35
This Warminster public golf club was once awarded the Pennsylvania golf course of the year by the National Golf Course Owners Association for its course quality — including its name-worthy five water features — and contributions to the sporting community. For the best bargain, book after 3 p.m. during the week ($35 to walk, $50 to ride). If you can only go on the weekends, prices range from $35 through $78 depending on time and cart preference.
Galen Hall Golf Course
Drive from Philly: 1 hour and 30 minutes (645 North Galen Hall Road, Wernersville)
Best tee time price: $25
Situated outside of Reading, Galen Hall is a secluded course featuring hilled terrain and mountain views. Its signature 15th hole, known as “Moat Hole,” has a true island green, making for an authentic golf experience. Reserve a weekday twilight tee time for only $27 or a weekday morning for $50. Weekend pricing ranges between $38–$56.
Golden Pheasant Golf Club
Drive from Philly: 35 minutes (141 Country Club Drive, Lumberton, New Jersey)
Best tee time price: $36
Opened in 1963, Golden Pheasant Golf Club cuts through the dense woods next to the Flying W airport. With a mix of fairways, greens, and bunkers, this Lumberton staple is best visited Monday through Friday after 4 p.m., when you can golf for $36 walking or $48 riding.
Inniscrone Golf Club*
Drive from Philly: 1 hour (15 Athelone Way, Avondale)
Best tee time price: $45
Players of all levels will enjoy Inniscrone Golf Club, with elevated greens, and sand traps and marshes in the back nine. Their weekday pricing typically ranges from $45 through $56, with most weekends under $70.
Iron Valley Golf Club
Drive from Philly: 1 hour and 40 minutes (201 Iron Valley Drive, Lebanon)
Best tee time price: $39
Iron Valley’s 352 acres of natural terrain were actually home to a once-operating iron field — hence, the club’s name. Players can expect vistas, undulating greens, and 7,026 yards of golf from the longest tees. Walking on weekday mornings will cost you $47 (it’s $10 more for a cart), but after 2 p.m. the cost dips to $39. Want to play on the weekend? Go after 2 p.m. when tee times are under $63.
Jeffersonville Golf Course
Drive from Philly: 40 minutes (2400 West Main Street, Norristown)
Best tee time price: $45
Prior to becoming a golf course in 1931, the land on which Jeffersonville sits was used for horse racing, making for its oval shape and natural curvatures. Jeffersonville does feature a number of bunkers, making for a challenging course for both new and experienced players. Some weekday twilight time slots dip down to $45, but other budget-friendly times include weekday mornings for $55 and weekend afternoons for $70 and under.
Kimberton Golf Club
Drive from Philly: 1 hour (162 Ridge Road, Pheonixville)
Best tee time price: $35
The proud host of Philly Publinks’ “Phoenixville Open,” the Amateur Golf Society’s “The Kimberton Classic,” and their own Club Championship, Kimberton Golf Club has been hosting golfers of all experience levels on their renowned course for over 60 years. The most affordable time to fine-tune your skills is weekday twilight hours, when you can score a tee time for under $40. If you are interested in weekends, look for slots after 1 p.m. to keep costs under $65. (Bonus: They offer tailored instruction and have a driving range so you can practice your swing.)
Manor Golf Club
Drive from Philly: 1 hour and 20 minutes (153 Bran Road, Reading)
Best tee time price: $24
Designed by the “father of American golf,” Alexander Findlay, Manor’s golf course is located on a mountain, making its terrain the most challenging part of your round. Six of the holes require blind approach shots — meaning you won’t be able to see your target — and therefore are better suited for players with some experience. Weekday evenings can see prices as low as $24, with weekends around $43.
Melrose Country Club
Drive from Philly: 35 minutes (7600 Tookany Creek Parkway, Cheltenham)
Best tee time price: $28
Just a quick drive from the city, Melrose boasts a classic golf course that will test your skills and challenge your short game. Plus, their pricing is affordable. Walking rates throughout the week are only $28, and you can play after 2 p.m. for only $41 ($52 on Fridays). Weekend tee times are also budget-friendly after 2 p.m. when you can play for under $55.
Middletown Country Club
Drive from Philly: 35 minutes (420 North Bellevue Avenue, Langhorne)
Best tee time price: $35
Since 1916, golfers have been enjoying the fairways of this Buck’s County staple. The 6,076-yard course has since been renovated, but it still highlights the rolling terrain of the Neshaminy Valley. Prices are pretty consistent throughout the week. From noon to twilight, tee times range from $35 to $48 depending on your mode of transportation. Weekend twilight hours are priced at $40 to walk and $50 with a cart.
Neshaminy Valley Golf Club
Drive from Philly: 50 minutes (440 Almshouse Road, Jamison)
Best tee time price: $33
Turned milk farm to golf course by founder Charles Schneider, Neshaminy Valley Golf Club is surrounded by woods and sees the Neshaminy Creek running alongside the 14th hole — making for quite a picturesque round of golf. Visit for just $33 (walking) or $45 (riding) or after 2 p.m. during the week, or pay between $33 to $55 on the weekend depending on time and mode of transportation.
Paxon Hollow Country Club
Drive from Philly: 35 minutes (850 Paxon Hollow Road, Media)
Best tee time price: $35
Because Paxon Hollow was originally formed as a private club over 90 years ago, the now-public course features elements classic to the sport, like artfully shaped bunkers and manicured fairways. Weekdays are priced at $55, with weekend rates ranging from $40 to $70.
Pitman Golf Course
Drive from Philly: 30 minutes (501 Pitman Road, Sewell, New Jersey)
Best tee time price: $29
Want to escape the city without driving too far? Head 30 minutes over the bridge to Pitman Golf Course in Sewell, New Jersey. There, you’ll find 18 holes of regulation golf, plus a practice putting green and driving range. Their tiered rates are budget-friendly no matter which day or time you go, with walking prices ranging from $29 to $44. (Note: Cart fees are extra.)
Raven’s Claw
Drive from Philly: 50 minutes (3159 West Ridge Pike, Pottstown)
Best tee time price: $39
This Pottstown course sees 6,700 yards of green from the back tees, plus bentgrass tees and a variety of hole styles. Your cheapest option ($39) is to walk the green after 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, but a cart will only cost you $10 more. Pro tip: Avoid weekends before noon to pay $69 or less.
Shepherd Hills Golf Club
Drive from Philly: 1 hour and 20 minutes (1160 South Krocks Road, Wescosville)
Best tee time price: $25
This Lehigh Valley club describes itself as a course “where country club greens meet everyday low pricing” — and for good reason. Their weekday tee times will cost you between $25 to $42, with weekends under $50.
Skippack Golf Club
Drive from Philly: 45 minutes (1146 Stump Hall Road, Skippack)
Best tee time price: $35
Skippack has a reputation for being a true player’s course. Spanning 6,007 yards, it features small undulating greens, making it a great place to practice your chip shot. The back nine’s wooded terrain is quite scenic, especially as you shoot around the Zachariah Creek for three holes. Golfers can play for $35 after 4 p.m on weekdays, and weekend rates drop from $72 to $51 after 2 p.m.
Turtle Creek
Drive from Philly: 55 minutes (303 West Ridge Pike, Limerick)
Best tee time price: $40
Known for its great turf and surrounding trees, Turtle Creek is a solid choice for players who are first starting out or are well-versed in the sport. If you’re an early riser, go during the week to keep costs under $60. If you love afternoon or evening play, expect to pay between $40 to 60 seven days per week.
Walnut Lane Golf Club
Drive from Philly: 20 minutes (800 Walnut Lane, Wissahickon)
Best tee time price: $32
Walnut Lane is located right in the heart of Wissahickon Valley Park, making this a great nearby course option for Center City residents. With a total of 4,509 yards, the club features sloping hills and tucked-away targets. Shoot a walking round for $32 during weekday twilight hours, or ride a cart on a weekend morning for only $52.
Wedgewood Golf Course
Drive from Philly: 1 hour and 5 minutes (4875 Limeport Pike, Coopersburg)
Best tee time price: $36
Situated in the quaint section of the Lehigh Valley known as Coopersburg, Wedgewood Golf Course offers a peaceful, but challenging golf experience, with extensive fairways, several water features, and Saucon Creek cutting right through the course. Riding rates ranging from $36 to $58 seven days per week.
