The Gritty 5K Was Yesterday, and the Costumes Were as Epic as You’d Expect

When the Gritty-themed run was announced as official a few months back, we were decidedly amped. This was a 5K we’d been looking forward to for a while, as rumors swirled for what seemed like eons about whether the glorious event would actually take place. Although we were certainly psyched for the larger-than-life inflatable versions of our fluffy friend (and, of course, to hobnob with the Gritster himself), the anticipation was truly mounting for how the rest of Philly would represent. ‘Cuz mascot gods would not look kindly on the Gritizens if they didn’t show up looking fierce.

It’s no surprise then that they lived up to the challenge during yesterday’s Gritty 5K at the Wells Fargo Center. From oversize roly-poly costumes to inflatable ones to kid- and baby-size iterations, the attire ran the gamut — but we know all of it made Gritty truly proud.
