That’s right: Barry’s is coming to Philly. Finally.

After 21 long, anticipated years, Philadelphians will be able to work up a Barry’s sweat in the heart of Center City and stop spending extra money on travel to hit one of Barry’s 50 worldwide locations (raise your hand if you’ve flown to New York, Boston, Miami, Nashville, San Francisco, even Norway, for Barry’s Bootcamp). The Philadelphia location is projected to open sometime later this year in Rittenhouse. Although no date or month has been specified or released yet, the studio will make its home at 1911 Sansom Street, on the ground floor of the luxury residential building the Harper.

Barry’s Bootcamp was founded in Los Angeles in 1998 by LA-based celebrity trainer Barry Jay. Jay, who sought an all-in-one workout, created a 60-minute cardio and strength training fitness experience. Today, it’s considered to be the O.G. high-intensity workout, burning up to 1,000 calories per class.

Barry’s customers, known as the “FitFam,” come back again and again for the signature fitness routine. The workout consists of 25 to 30 minutes of interval-based cardio routines on treadmills and 25 to 30 minutes of strength training using props like free weights and resistance bands. Over the years, the gym has added what’s known as its Double Floor class, a no-treadmill option for the days when running is just not going to happen.

Along with the intense workout, Barry’s is known for its Red Room, a dimly lit space that allows attendees to forget the outside world for an hour and concentrate solely on the workout. Heart-pumping playlists and motivating instructors push each member of the FitFam to test their physical and mental limits, achieving optimal results. At the end of each class, you’ll have toned your muscles, maximized your fat-loss threshold, and increased your metabolism. Plus, Barry’s studios feature its Fuel Bar, serving up Barry’s own recipes of healthy and energizing smoothies and snacks so you can renourish and refuel post-workout.

So, Philly, let the excitement over Barry’s long-awaited arrival carry you through this year. We’ll meet you in the Red Room sometime soon.
