Philly’s New Healthy Cafe Serves Oatmeal Bowls and Fancy Toast
Frutta Bowls, a new spot for açaí bowls, smoothies, and more, is now open.
This has been a good year for healthy eaters in Philly. Not only has our plant-based scene gotten more of the attention it deserves — VegFest returned, Vegan Restaurant Week was launched — but a number of new healthy eateries have arrived in town. From SoBol with their açaí bowls to Vitality Bowls “superfood” cafe to Just Salad’s new University City location, we’ve got plenty of colorful, plant-filled foods available in Philly.
And now we’ve got another healthy food shop to add to the list: Frutta Bowls, now open in Spring Garden. The new restaurant is part of a larger chain of cafes that originated in 2016 in Freehold, New Jersey. The fast-growing chain now has over 40 locations around the country, but this location marks the first in Philadelphia.
The new Philly Frutta Bowls has the menu staples of most açaí bowl shops — açaí, pitaya, and kale smoothie bowls, plus drinkable smoothies — but they’ve also got some less common items available, including oatmeal bowls, artisan toast, and organic coffee. The oatmeal bowls, by the way, sound pretty spectacular. You can order a plain rolled oats bowl, sure, or go for some truly decadent options, like the Coco Puff Bowl (rolled oats with Nutella, peanut butter, almond milk, whey protein powder and topped with graham crackers and whipped cream) or the Cinnamon Caramel Apple Bowl (açaí, banana rolled oats, cinnamon, green apples, and caramel. I mean, WHOA.).
As for toast, there’s The Bravocado, Frutta’s twist on an avocado mash; The Harvest, with peanut butter, dried fruit, and sriracha (?!); or The G.O.A.T. with roasted red pepper hummus, basil, and goat cheese, plus several others. Is it just me or are you suddenly starving?
Frutta Bowls is now open at 2001 Hamilton Street.
