This Philadelphia Pilates Studio Just Added a TRX Class

More proof TRX training is trending in Philadelphia.

It’s confirmed: TRX training is having a moment in Philadelphia. It’s popping up in studios around the city — and from spin studios to barre studios to Pilates studios, TRX is the add-on workout du jour.

The latest to add TRX to their lineup? Thrive Pilates in Rittenhouse. The studio gives the TRX workout — which relies on straps, suspended from above, for bodyweight resistance training — a unique Pilates twist.

Set in a small class size (there are just eight spots per class) with pounding music to get your blood flowing, the class starts off with a more typical TRX routine.  You’ll keep your sneakers on while doing squat jumps, jump lunges, mountain climbers and more. Afterwards, the second half will be spent in a TRX and Pilates mash-up.

This TRX Pilates class uses the straps to help attendees to engage their deep core and push them a little further than a traditional Pilates mat class. Anyone who’s used a TRX system knows: somehow, doing something basic like push-ups is suddenly so much harder when your feet are suspended in the air. So while you can expect to work from the mat doing some familiar Pilates sequences, don’t think it’ll be easy — you’ll be feeling those planks like never before.

Starting March 20, the TRX class will be taught at Thrive Pilates (2016 Walnut Street) at 12:15 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. Classes are $26 for a drop-in, and you can book your spot here.
