These Are the Best Philly-Area Hospitals, According to U.S. News & World Report
U.S. News and World Report just released its annual Best Hospitals rankings and — drumroll, please — The Hospitals of the University of Pennsylvania-Penn Presbyterian landed on the Best Hospitals Honor Roll, earning the ninth spot on the list of 20 hospitals across the nation recognized for delivering exceptional treatment in multiple areas of care. They also rank number one in the Philadelphia metro area and in Pennsylvania. We think they deserve a round of applause, don’t you?
The annual Best Hospitals rankings compare nearly 5,000 medical centers across the country in 25 specialties, procedures and conditions, to determine the top-ranked hospitals nationally and regionally. The Hospitals of the University of Pennsylvania-Penn Presbyterian — two hospitals within the University of Pennsylvania Health System that operate under one license — ranked nationally in 11 adult specialties: cancer; cardiology and heart surgery; diabetes and endocrinology; ear, nose and throat; gastroenterology and GI surgery; geriatrics; nephrology; neurology and neurosurgery; orthopedics; pulmonology; and urology.
Thomas Jefferson Hospital, the number two hospital in the Philaldephia area, also ranked nationally in 11 specialties, coming in at a super-impressive second place for ophthalmology. (The Wills Eye Hospital is included in the hospital’s evaluation.) When it comes to the top five Philadelphia-area hospital rankings, HUP/PPMC and Jefferson are followed by Christiana Care Christiana Hospital in Newark, Abington Memorial Hospital and Lankenau Medical Center. You can see the full rundown of Philadelphia-area rankings here. (Note: U.S. News & World Report puts out a separate ranking of the Best Children’s Hospitals, in which CHOP came in second (again) this year.)
When it comes to nationwide hospital rankings, Minnesota’s Mayo Clinic nabbed the winning spot on the Best Hospitals Honor Roll, followed by Cleveland Clinic and Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. You can see the full Best Hospitals Honor Roll list here. And again, a round of applause for our local hospital workers, eh?
