Mark Your Calendars: Date for Rocky 50K Run Announced!
If you love running really long distances (for free!), grab a pen and your calendar: The date for the fourth annual Rocky 50K Fat Ass Run was announced by founder Rebecca Barber on Twitter just a few minutes ago, and it looks like you’ll be donning your grey sweatsuit and pounding the pavement come Saturday, December 3rd.
In case you’ve somehow missed out on word of the brilliant event in the past, the Rocky 50K is a Philly-born fat ass run — so a free run, sans fees, bibs and awards — that follows the 30.61-mile route completed by Rocky Balboa in Rocky II. (Philly Mag’s very own Dan Mcquade traced it here, actually.) Of course, red headbands and grey tracksuits are appreciated, but not required.
This year, runners will meet at Wolf and Lambert Streets in South Philly at 6:50 a.m. to go over any questions, then runners will get on their way at 7. So, don’t make any plans for December 3rd — you’ll be busy running. Pretty much all day. You can keep up with the run on Facebook here.
