Get this, you guys: City Fitness is setting up shop on Frankford Avenue in Fishtown, and they’re building a brand new gym that will have — wait for it — a TREE growing in the middle of it. Like, planted in the freakin’ ground of the gym. I can’t be the only one whose jaw drops at the thought of that.

The gym, set to open at 1424-34 Frankford Avenue (right next to the new Kit and Ace) in September, sounds like it will be 21,000 square feet of a gym lover’s paradise. City Fitness marketing director Tom Wingert tells us the new gym will have two floors, the first mostly filled with your usual gym equipment — treadmills, weights, and so on — and the second with a functional training area, a room for group classes, and an outdoor space with turf, where they can host outdoor Spin (!!) and the like in the warmer months. There will be windows everywhere, so lots of light, and they’ll also be integrating tons of fitness tech into the gym (think: heart rate monitors for all, and that kind of jazz) so that members can get a better read on their workouts. And did I mention the juice bar? There will be one of those, too, available to members and non-members.

Sounds kind of like a dream gym right?

As Wingert says of the new Fishtown gym, City Fitness’s fifth location, “This is going to be such a great addition to the clubs we have now. This is the first time we’ve really been in a position to make something beautiful and fantastic and we’re excited to see what that looks like.”

Wingert says that gym should be open by September, but they’ll be pre-selling memberships starting somewhere around June. I’ll just be sitting here, waiting patiently for that juice bar to open, thanks.
