RippedPHL: New Fitness Studio Coming to Center City
Attention Center City-ites: There’s a new fitness studio coming your way. It’s called RippedPHL, and it’s goal is to get you, well, ripped.
The studio will be located at 1519 Walnut Street, with a target opening date of January 2016. The studio is owned by trainers Katie Costalas and Charbel Sarkis, who bring 20 years of combined experience in the fitness industry. In addition to personal and small-group training, the duo has created a signature format for high-intensity training that alternates between cardio and strength training in a single 60-minute workout. Costalas, who I chatted with earlier this week, wanted to keep the specifics under wraps, but she said the cardio machines they’ll be using will be totally new to Philadelphia. Intrigue!
As for the space itself, “It’s going to have an industrial feel,” says Costalas. She said they’re going for an edgy, nightclub vibe with dim lighting and energetic music in the workout spaces. There will also be personalized TV screens as well as heart rate monitors for each class participant.
And count your blessings if you like to work out before work or during lunch: RippedPHL will have full-service locker and changing rooms with several individual shower stalls — something you don’t see in a lot of smaller studios.
Until the studio gets up and running, Costalas and Sarkis will offer free pop-up workouts around town. They’ll bring some equipment, like TRX trainers and weights, to give you a taste of their workouts. The next one is on Saturday, November 7th from 9 to 10 a.m. at the Water Works Pavilion behind the Art Museum. Keep tabs with RippedPHL on Facebook for the latest updates.
And just for fun, check out the sick video below of Costalas absolutely tearing it up on the Ben Franklin Bridge. Like, whoa.
Step outside the same gym routine, and take strength and agility training outdoors. Adding to your cardio routine will keep you safe, metabolism boosted, and looking great. RIPPEDPHL is coming soon, get ready for something different!! #Fitness #Gym #Rippedphl #TRX #Love #philadelphia #Run #Strong
