Yoga On the Pier Returns! — And 8 Other Fit and Healthy Events This Weekend
I hope you plan to spend as much time out of your house — and outdoors — as possible this weekend. The weather is going to be gorgeous! With a full roster of fit things to do — from the return of Yoga on the Pier to the Wharton 5K to the Philly Farm and Food Fest — you have no excuse but to have a blast. Check out our picks below.
1. Yoga at Race Street Pier
When: Saturday, April 11th at 9:30 a.m.
Where: Race Street Pier, 121 North Columbus Boulevard, Delaware Riverfront.
Free outdoor yoga returns! Philly’s most popular warm-weather event is back this weekend with ample opportunities to get your free yoga on through the spring and early fall. The inaugural class is on Saturday, but you can catch them on Sunday, too, also at 9:30 a.m. After that, the weekly schedule is as follows:
Monday: 7 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Tuesday: 7 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Wednesday: 7 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Thursday: 7 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Friday: 7 a.m.
Saturday: 9:30 a.m.
Sunday: 9:30 a.m.
2. Philly Farm and Food Fest
When: Sunday, April 12th from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: Pennsylvania Convention Center.
This annual event, hosted by Fair Food Philly and the Pennsylvania Association for Sustainable Agriculture, is a food lover’s dream, with over 150 local farms and businesses setting up shop for the day, basically creating the dreamiest farmers’ market imaginable. There’s also a cooking demo stage, where you can soak up some serious food knowledge, how-to workshops all day long, and a Book Nook where you can meet local cookbook authors. Tickets are $20.
3. Ab Blast for Yogis
When: Saturday, April 11th from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.
Where: Priya Hot Yoga, 1828 Callowhill Street, Fairmount.
Instructor Julia Paddison will give your core a serious run for its money in this two-hour workshop. You’ll practice poses that require engaging your abs from all angles, and learn how to engage your core correctly to take your practice to the next level. It’s $20 to participate.
4. PB3 Spa Grand Opening
When: Saturday, April 11th from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Where: 800 North Kings Highway, Cherry Hill.
A few weeks back, we told you all about the new spa and wellness center opening in Cherry Hill. This weekend, PB3 will officially open its doors with a grand-opening open house on Saturday. You can check out the new space, plus try free mini fitness classes (yoga, Pilates, kickboxing) and nutritional consultations, score discounted spa services, eat healthy refreshments by The Farm & The Fisherman Tavern, and go home with free giveaways.
5. Wharton 5K
When: Saturday, April 11th at 8:30 a.m.
Where: University of Pennsylvania Campus. Race begins on Woodland Walk on College Green, outside of Van Pelt Library.
This race through University City benefits Camp Kesem, a student-led nonprofit organization that provides a free weeklong summer camp for children who have or had a parent with cancer. The course consists of two loops on Penn’s campus. It’s $30 to register; race-day registration will happen between 7 and 8 a.m.
6. Free Yoga at Yoga Home
When: Saturday, April 11th from noon to 4 p.m.
Where: 424 East Elm Street, Conshohocken.
Yoga Home is celebrating its one-year anniversary with a day of free classes. They’re offering eight free 50-minute yoga classes ranging from Slow Flow to Power Flow to Baby and Me, and more. 7. Rock ‘N Roll Vinyasa for LLS
When: Sunday, April 12th from 3 to 4:30 p.m.
Where: Doubletree Hotel, 301 West Dekalb Pike, King of Prussia.
Stillpoint Yoga is hosting a fun fundraiser for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society: a 90-minute Vinyasa class set to classic rock hits. After class, there will be food, drinks and raffles for goods and services at local businesses. The event is pay-what-you-wish, with funds going to LLS of Eastern PA.
8. “Discover Healthy Mediterranean Cuisine” Cooking Class
When: Sunday, April 12th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Where: The Nourishing Well, 505 West Darby Road, Havertown.
This demo-style class — instructor Marilyn Moser-Waxman cooks while you watch, take notes, sip tea and eat samples — will teach you about nutrient-packed dishes from the Mediterranean. You learn why the Mediterranean diet is considered so healthy and glean recipes starring fresh ingredients to make for yourself at home. It’s $60 to participate.
9. Bike Movie Night
When: Friday, April 10th from 6:30 to 10 p.m.
Where: The Glass Factory, 1517 North Bailey Street, Brewerytown.
CineSPEAK and SPOKE magazine are teaming up for a bicycling-themed movie night and art exhibition. The evening starts with a pop-up photography show and party, featuring music and beer from 6:30 to 8. Then the films get underway, with showings of Jitenshaand Wadjda, both bike-related movies. It’s $8 in advance and $10 at the door.
