A few weeks ago, I went to the local craft food and drink showcase Noshhh and had the best cocktail of my life. No exaggeration. I got it from the showcase’s make-your-own cocktail bar, where you got to choose two mix-ins from fresh ingredients, like strawberries, cucumber, blackberries, basil, cilantro, jalapeños and more good stuff (I opted for strawberries and basil), along with a liquor (I went with vodka), and have the bartenders (one of which was event organizer Dan Hamm from 1 Tippling Place) make you a drink using what you picked.

I repeat: It was the best cocktail of my life. And all it took was fresh strawberries and basil!

So you can imagine my excitement when I got an email from Hamm saying that, this April, he’ll be teaching cocktail-making workshops where folks can learn how to make their very own “better and healthier cocktails” using fresh fruits, fresh juices, and herbs. Meaning: We can all say goodbye to sugary store-bought mixers and hello to farm-fresh drinks — and just in time for farmers’ market season, no less.

The cocktail-making workshops, dubbed Fresh and Fancy Cocktails, will be taught three Mondays in April, starting April 13th, from 8 to 9:30 p.m. at ANJUthreads at 12th and Walnut in Midtown Village. During each hands-on class, attendees will learn how to make two signature cocktails using fresh ingredients, plus they’ll go home with a bartending set, with items hand-picked by Hamm, in hand.

A ticket will run you $45. You can find out more about the classes and buy tickets here.
