#OpeninPHL: Where to Do Hot Yoga in Philly Today
You know what’s even better than hot cocoa on a snow day? Hot yoga. It warms you up and, at the end of the day, makes you feel like you did something other than sit on your couch watching Criminal Minds and drinking Swiss Miss for 12 hours straight. Plus, it only takes 90-minutes max — so you actually can sit around watching Criminal Minds while drinking Swiss Miss for the rest of your day. Now, that’s what I call a win-win.
A lot of yoga studios have taken a snow day today (we don’t blame them), but a few are keeping their doors open. Below, four hot yoga classes to trek to in Philly this afternoon.
What: Bikram
Where: Bikram Yoga Philadelphia, 1520 Sansom Street, Rittenhouse.
When: Various times; Check the schedule.
This Center City Bikram studio offers a 90-minute class on the hour every hour starting at 3:30 p.m. today. Just come prepared to sweat a lot — the classrooms are heated to 104 degrees. Fact: I’ve seen people wear Speedos to class here on more than one occasion.
What: Infrared Hot Flow
Where: Amrita Yoga & Wellness, 1204 Frankford Avenue, Fishtown.
When: 4:30 p.m.
During this class, you’ll get your downward dog on in a balmy 95-degree classroom heated with infrared heat, said to penetrate the body to open up your muscles and nourish your connective tissue. And don’t forget to look up during class — the classroom has skylights which will make your snow-day hot-yoga experience all the more dreamy.
What: Yoga Sculpt
Where: Philly Power Yoga, 2016 Walnut Street, Rittenhouse.
When: 4 p.m.
This is not your usual zen yoga class: This hourlong heated class is set to energizing music, and incorporates free weights to help sculpt your body into tip-top shape. Pretty productive way to spend your snow day, if I do say so myself.
What: Hot Vinyasa Yoga
Where: Priya Hot Yoga, 1828 Callowhill Street, Fairmount.
When: Various times; Check the schedule.
If you haven’t made your way over to this new-ish Fairmount studio yet, today’s the day. They’ve got three hot Vinyasa yoga classes happening this afternoon and evening, all heated to around 90 degrees. Afterward, head over to Sabrina’s Cafe down the street for some breakfast-for-dinner pancakes. Anything goes on a snow day, right?
