6 Unexpected Places to Buy Cool Fitness Gear Right Now

When it comes to shopping for fitness gear, Lululemon and Nike aren’t the only games in town anymore. While the ol’ standbys are going strong, of course, lots of new activewear brands and lines have been cropping up in some surprising places lately—stores and websites you wouldn’t necessarily think to shop for fitness gear.

Here are six of our favorites (with photos, of course).

Unexpected Places to Get Fitness Gear

Free People's 'RUN' Collection

This just-released line is the brand's latest addition to its activewear collection, which also includes duds for dancers, yogis and surfers. It's exactly what you'd expect if Free People—part of the Philly-based Urban Outfitters family—got into the running game: nothing's overly loud, and everything's kind of earthy, with colors like black, cobalt and melon.

Aritizia's 'High Energy'

We don't have any Aritizia stores around here, but it's worth checking out the store on Fifth Avenue next time you're in New York. (Or you can always shop online, duh.) The clothes feel like a slightly more grown up Urban Outfitters (think Urban meets J.Crew), and the new activewear goods are no exception. They include leggings, sports bras, sweat pants, vests and more that are probably cooler looking than what you're currently sporting to the gym.

Without Walls

Speaking of Urban Outfitters, the company launched a new fitness brand, Without Walls, earlier this year that we're pretty much obsessed with. It's loud, fun, overstated, and pattern-and-neon heavy—exactly what we want to wear when we work out.

Anthropologie

Rounding out the Urban trifecta is the most grown-up brand of them all. Anthro's nearly one-year-old activewear line offers a more subdued, sophisticated take on gym clothes and gear. Our favorites are the printed yoga mats.

H&M

A friend of mine absolutely swears by H&M's workout gear. While it's far from top-of-the-line (i.e. there's a lot of polyester in the fabrics), the prices are reasonable and the patterns are cute. My friend's H&M capri tights are her favorite that she owns.

Kmart's Impact by Jillian Michaels

Kmart made a pretty big splash this summer with the release of its collabo fitnesswear collection with none other than celebrity trainer Jillian Michaels. The items are pretty basic (relatively plain sports bras, tights and tanks) but if you're in the market for some basics, well, now you know where to go.
