Mark Your Calendars: The First-Ever Philly VegFest Is Coming June 14th
Dear fellow Philly vegetarians, get ready to do a happy dance because the first ever Philly VegFest is just about one month away, and let me tell you, this festival is the stuff vegetarian food-dreams are made of.
The festival, hosted by The Humane League, will fill the Shambles, the open-air space at Second and Pine, with local vegetarian and vegan food galore, vegan-friendly shop vendors, cooking demos and more come June 14th. Eeeeee! (I am totally happy-dancing right now.)
Folks will have their pick of vegetarian and vegan grub from spots like HipCityVeg, Blackbird Pizzeria, Miss Rachel’s Pantry, Sip N Glo Juicery, V-Street and MomPops, just to name a few. And once you’ve filled up on vegan pizza, sweet potato fries and smoothies, head over to one of the festival’s exhibitions to load up on some food knowledge: Christina Pirello of Christina Cooks (who recently gave us the drool-worthy details on her favorite vegan dessert in Philly) will be doling out cooking advice, chef Rachel Klein of Miss Rachel’s Vegan Pantry will be showing off her vegan cooking skills with a demo, and chef KESS, who’s cooked healthy eats for the likes of Erykah Badu and Russell Simmons, will be speaking. You can check out the full list of vendors and speakers here.
Oh! And did I mention there will be live music, too? The festival will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, June 14th, and entry is totally free. Just make sure to bring a hearty appetite and enjoy.
