Philly-Area Chipotles Are Getting Vegan Sofritas
Remember back in January when we found out that Chipotle Mexican Grill was trying out a new meatless vegan “meat” option called Sofritas at its San Francisco restaurants? And remember, after reading that post, when you said to yourself, “Well, gosh, I sure wish they’d bring it to Philly”?
Well, my vegan friend, it looks like dreams do come true, at least when your dreams involve vegan menu options at Chipotle. I got word yesterday that the chain will begin testing Sofritas (defined as “shredded tofu braised with chipotle chilies, roasted poblano peppers and a blend of aromatic spices”) in Philly locations beginning next Monday, October 21st.
Sofritas will be available in burritos, tacos, burrito bowls and salads. And in case you’re wondering, the tofu used in Sofritas comes from Cali-based Hodo Soy, a company that produces organic, GMO-free soy products.
In addition to Philly restaurants, Sofritas will also make their East Coast debut at locations in Baltimore, Richmond and Washington, D.C.
UPDATE: Here’s a full list of participating Chipotle restaurants in the city and ‘burbs.
