To Do: Run the Undy 5000

Always wanted to run in your underwear? Now's your chance!

At the Undy 5000, not only is running in your underwear socially acceptable, it is encouraged!  The September 8th 5K, which kicks off at 9 a.m. on MLK drive next to the Art Museum, raises money for the Colon Cancer Alliance. The CCA donates a portion of proceeds proceeds to local community partners that help fund colon cancer services.

According to the website, participants are encouraged to run in their boxers/underwear to “bring attention to the area affected by colon cancer.” This makes sense, especially since a main preventative factor in colon cancer is simply talking about the disease. Awareness, people!

Yes, the CCA wants you to proudly put your underwear on display, but they also want to remind runners to dress appropriately as people (and boxer-wearing dogs) of all ages will be participating. This means layering and being creative with how you wear your undies! Check out the FAQ section of the race website for more details. To register, head over here.

In advance: $30 ages 13 and up, $25 ages 6 to 13, $20 for the one-mile fun run. On Race Day: $40, $35, $30, respectively. Saturday, September 8, 9 a.m., Martin Luther King Drive (Next to the Art Museum), Philadelphia.
