Get in Race Shape: Broad Street Run Training Programs
With the Broad Street Run only 10 weeks away (!), it’s time to start mapping out a training plan. Since flying solo on your Saturday-morning jaunts is bound to get lonely at some point, why not opt for a training program that includes pointers, coaching and company? Here are four programs that can help you cross the finish line in one piece.
Team Philly Race Training
- $75 for the 10-week Broad Street Run program (does not include race registration)
- February 29th through May 6th
Team Philly Race Training is now in its fifth season and open for runners of all skill levels. This 10-week program includes group runs on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Since Team Philly is co-founded by Philadelphia Runner, Excel Physical Therapy, and Fusion Cross-Training, those who sign up for the training program will get discounts at Philadelphia Runner, a trial workout at Fusion Cross-Training, and free workshops on sports medicine with physicians from Excel. There are still plenty of spots in the training program, but participants do not have guaranteed access to the Broad Street Run (i.e. you have to get your own race bib). Learn more and sign up here.
Core Fitness Broad Street Run Training Program
- $109 for level one, $159 for level two, $249 for level three of the ten-week program, or $15 per session as a walk-in (does not include race registration)
- Saturdays at 7:30 a.m., February 25th through April 28th
This program offers three different levels, depending on training needs, that take different routes from the starting point of the group runs. The goal is to keep runners together as much as possible, but still allow everyone to train at their own pace. In addition to the weekly group runs, this training program includes nutritional information and any 10 group fitness classes. You can still sign up for the remaining nine weeks or show up for a few group runs as a walk-in. Since it’s all outdoors, space is not limited. Learn more and sign up here.
Sporting Club Training Program
- $299, includes registration for the Broad Street Run (you’ll run as part of the Sporting Club’s team). If you’re already registered for the race, the training program costs $250.
- February 29th through May 2nd
Sporting Club at the Bellevue is offering this training program to members as well as nonmembers. The 10-week training includes group runs, strength conditioning and nutritional information. Participants can choose between 6 a.m. and 12 p.m. to meet on Wednesdays and longer runs will be scheduled on the weekends. If this is your ticket to fitness for the race, sign up soon! Space is very limited. Learn more and register here.
Training with Team TerraMar
- $69 (does not include include race registration)
- February 25th through May 26th
Join the team and train for the Broad Street Run and the ODDyssey Half Marathon together, even if you’re only planning on participating in one. The registration fee includes long group runs on Saturdays, optional Tuesday night runs, and a workout program specifically tailored to each individual. A coach provides individual training and a workout regimen to be done throughout the week on your own time, based on your fitness level and goals. Runners of different skill levels will run together during the weekend runs, but every participant is required to be able to run at least three miles without stopping from the get-go. Register soon though! Registration will be closed off within the next two weeks and space is limited. Learn more and register here.
