Clay Aiken is Outraged
The out American Idol criticizes anti-gay marriage amendment
Clay Aiken grew up in North Carolina. Remember him? The singer, who’s now a gay parent, is speaking out against Amendment One, a law that would ban same-sex marriage in the Tar Heel State. He recently talked about his activism – saying that the law would impose unnecessary discrimination on families like his that already lack many of the same rights and tax breaks that others enjoy. And while he was once criticized for hiding his sexuality at the height of his fame (comedian Kathy Griffin regularly referred to him as “The Gaiken”), he’s since decided to use his celebrity to help prevent this anti-gay amendment from passing.
