MTV’s Marathon for LGBT Rights

Stream the 24-hour dance marathon live

MTV kicked off a massive dance marathon yesterday at the Roxy Theatre in L.A. that’s still kicking up its heels. The network is hoping to break the Guinness World Record for longest dance group marathon – and they’re getting jiggy with it on the Sunset Strip for a great cause: to raise money and bring awareness to LGBT issues.

“Not only are we honoring achievements in digital music, but we’re also looking to push the boundaries of content creation on new platforms,” says Shannon Connolly, vice president of Digital Music Strategy for MTV Music and the Logo Group. “We’re not entirely sure what the 24-hour livestream will bring, but we are certain there will be dancer to root for and, of course, some unexpected moments.”

Several celebrities have stopped by already, including Shangela from RuPaul’s Drag Race, Peta Meragatroyd of Dancing with the Stars and We R Heroes from America’s Best Dance Crew, to groove and cheer on the dancers who hope to break the record during a live show today – and to bring some much-needed attention to bullying.

Fans have also been donating money during the live stream. Organizations receiving funds include GLSEN, It Gets Better Project, The Gay Straight Alliance Network, HRC, The Trevor Project and GLAAD.
