HughE Dillon: Design Home 2012 Party
Last night, the Philadelphia magazine Design Home 2012 had its official opening party. This year’s home is located in Newtown Square. Below: Marcie Line, Jessica Boerum, Troy Byker and Terry Sullivan all work at Merritt Gallery in Haverford. I told them how wonderful the artwork blended with the different colors and accents of the room. They told me they often work with many different personalities in the building business, and together they always come up with the perfect pairing. Note the expansive “wine cellar” behind them. There’s also a zen yoga room on the lower level of the house, with a sauna.
This year’s home was built by Tom Bentley (center), of Bentley Homes. Bentley has been building homes on the Main Line for nearly 40 years. This home was a real labor of love as he partnered with 20 other sponsors on the project to develop a complete home with interior design, landscaping and accessories, to bring the house to life and raise money for the Ronald McDonald House. The open-house tours start today and run through October 14th. Also pictured: 6 ABC’s Alicia Vitarelli (left), and Philly Mag publisher Marian Conicella.
Below: Marcello Luzi, Luzi, Weixler Peterson, and Gregory Seitter, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Luzi’s interior design firm worked on Design Home. He said the style was “transitional,” bridging the gap between traditional and contemporary. If you choose to purchase the $2.6 million, 6,000-square-foot home, the furnishings really don’t come with it; but they’re for sale, and when you tour the house, you get a buy sheet with the prices.
Below: Scott McIntyre, McIntyre Capron & Associates (architect), Jay Greene, Architectural Photography, and Tom Weston, AIA, McIntyre Capron & Associates. McIntyre Capron & Associates was also the firm on the 2007 and 2008 Design Homes. Check out Design Home online to see the work and photos of the trio.
Below: Sherry Litwer, senior brand manager at Philadelphia magazine, and her BFF, Mark Latka. Design Home is Sherry’s baby. Immediately after each home finishes its tour season, she starts working with her team on the next year’s project.
Below: Shirlee Sutow, Larry Sutow, Capital Wine & Spirits, Liz Franke and Dave Franke, Brown Forman. Shirlee and Larry really loved the master bedroom with the his and her’s closets. They told me the women’s dressing area has a wine refrigerator in it.
Below: Elvia Cox, Lin Thomas, and Kim Y. Beauvais enjoyed the entire house, but especially the kids’ playrooms with their bright, lively colors and fun toys. I loved this day bed by the window.
Below: Melissa Nase and Linda Moran, president at Hill Company, in the pool house. The Hill Company did all the pool house furnishings and accents, as well as the patio area around the beautiful two-level pool, done by Anthony & Sylvan Pools. You have to see the waterfalls—just gorgeous. Linda tells me the furnishings are for sale at a deep discount and can be picked up after October 14th.
Below: Dale Smith, Jen Kline, Gena Powers, of Weinstein Supply, and Ron Barkman. Jen and Gena are sitting on the freestanding tub, which really brings this classical-style house into a more modern time.
Below: Pat West, Rebecca Paul and James Bentley are in the dining room, which overlooks the cul-de-sac where the house is located, with a very expansive front yard.
Below: Kristy Sevag, Sevag Creative Agency, and 6 ABC’s Alicia Vitarelli. Kristy tells me she’s working hard on the Style Wars 2012, which is hosted by Joseph Anthony Retreat Spa and Salon. It’s a style battle between the salon employees that’s always a fun time; I went last year. All proceeds from this event go to children fighting cancer via Adopt a Pig (Piggy Banks), adoptapig.org. Alicia did a piece on the Design Home for FYI; you can see it online at the 6 ABC website. Design Home’s address, 120 Masons Way, Newtown Square, PA 19073, doesn’t show up on my GPS yet, so I used the “3200 block of St. Davids Road,” which is the cross street.
