Say Goodbye to the Philadelphia School District


Today, School Reform Commission Chairman Pedro Ramos and Chief Recovery Officer Thomas Knudsen announced that a plan for the decentralization of the Philadelphia School District. Essentially, they’re going to close 40 schools as they face a $218 million shortfall next year. Then, they’re going to close six additional schools each year until 2017. Instead of the centralized PSD, they’re going to have “achievement networks” of schools on performance-based contracts. [Inquirer]
