The Check-Up: Watch Out for ‘Text Neck’
How many hours a day do you think you spend hunched over your cell phone or iPad? If you’ve lost count, you might want to be careful. A Florida chiropractor is warning of a condition he’s dubbed “text neck,” the neck, back, and shoulder pain, and headaches associated with spending too much time staring at your gadgets. Claiming it’s a “global epidemic,” he even opened a practice called the Text Neck Institute after seeing patient after patient complaining of the same pain. Someone else conducted research on the subject and found that people who spend three or more hours a day hunched over their phones or tablets experienced significantly more neck and back pain than those who used them less. The lesson? Put your phone down.
