Reid Says He Will Not Step Down This Season
His team in a free-fall and his fate sealed, Andy Reid was asked if there was any scenario in which he would step down as head coach of the Eagles this season.
“I’m standing in front of the team and telling them, ‘These are the things we need to do, one of which is to continue to battle. And so I think that would be a cop-out,” said Reid. “That’s not how I see things. That’s not the way I’m wired. We’re going to keep battling and do it as a team. I’m not going to tell the guys one thing and then do the other.”
Does he believe his leadership is still effective?
“I look at everything, so I’m not telling you I don’t look at that,” said Reid. “We’re not winning football games and I take that responsibility. And since I’m in that leadership spot, my leadership right now isn’t good enough.”
The Eagles have lost six straight and look to be getting worse week by week. The team at 3-7, Reid will almost surely be relieved of his duties after failing to show the “substantial improvement” that owner Jeffrey Lurie was looking for.
“Listen, he’s a competitive guy. No one wants to win more than Jeffrey. I would tell you he is disappointed,” said Reid. “Rightly so. He feels the same way we do, that we’re letting people down in this city and so on. That’s what I can tell you.”
